Opening Steps - Fauquier Hotel Dieu for Women!

When Are You Opening Hotel Dieu for Women Fauquier?

While we wish we could have the Hotel Dieu for Women Fauquier open immediately, things do not work quite that way. There are steps we need to follow, and we are constantly discovering more steps as we step forward in faith.
We thank everyone for their continued prayers in this process.

1. First we needed to purchase a home. This involved obtaining insurance and a mortgage, just as our home first. If you already own a home, you'll have passed this first hurdle.
2. Preparing the home for visitors, fundraising. and long term planning.This is where we will be after November. We are still in the midst of applying for our non-profit status from the government, and have been told it may take three months after that to receive our charitable status number. However, we would like to assure you that we are running as a non-profit, and will be posting all our finances publicly online for the whole world to see. Transparency is VERY important.The faster we can complete stage 2, the sooner we can move to stage 3.
3. Welcoming the Women and Children. After the furniture, bedding and other amenities are in place, and it has passed inspection, we will need to change our insurance before welcoming women and children.Then, we will begin welcoming women and children.
4. Equipping Women.Equipping each other to glorify God by becoming a blessing to our homes, our communities, our countries and the world through our God given talents. Hotel Dieu for Women- Hostel of God pour les Femmes programming will focus on women lifting each other up back on the path God has ordained for each of us. This will include: 

• Reflective Bible Study, 
• Praise and Worship, 
• Service to others, 
• Examining our gifts, 
• Helping each other realize how we can glorify God through our talents. 
• Life skills such as literacy, cooking, gardening, sewing and more may form part of this program of increasing our abilities to use our God-given talents effectively. 
• Helping women to establish themselves in communities through job search or entrepreneurial programs will also be part of the program.

Yesterday morning, while hanging up a beautiful handmade quilt I'd received during my stay at a battered women's shelter this summer, a still small voice came into my heart:

"Put names on the quilt"

Quickly, I counted the small squares on the quilt - if each small square represented $5, then the quilt fundraiser could raise at least $32,000.

While we desperately need many things for the Hotel Dieu for Women, unfortunately, there are some things that need to be paid for in cash.

This quilt fundraiser is off to a great start, and I am praying that God will send us someone who is a better embroiderer than I am.

Thank you very much to Sherrie G , and Jag of Macs Milk in Omemee for each of their $20 donations.

While a $5 donation puts your desired initials on a square, Sherrie and Jag will each have their names embroidered in large hearts that cover 4 squares.

There are several things we would like to do with the funds raised through the quilt fundraiser, and we will be voting on at the next board meeting.

Some things being discussed are:

• Purchasing Land to build a home for a family $15,000 - will be reimbursed when the family builds a home on it within a year. 
• Purchasing a Greenhouse to Bless the community
• Purchasing a farm to raise food for the Hotel Dieu for Women - $50K

Thank You Lord For Gifts Donated!

We received a gift of new snow tires and rims for our van, from Peter Harris of Oshawa,so we can safely go up to Fauqiuer tonight - yes it will be snowing up there this Friday.

An anonymous donor has given our family 2 beds, 2 dressers, 2 night tables, a couch, coffee table, table, 4 chairs and an end table.

Hôtel Dieu for Women Needs List November 2nd 2015

People have been asking about what types of items they can bring us when they visit  Hôtel Dieu for Women. Some of you may know, when we weren't able to move into the building back in May due to the HST lien on the property, my daughter and I lost all our items we'd placed in one storage locker.

Sooo.. ...we need almost everything and anything you might need for equipping a home.

Also, the following transportation items such as vouchers for bus tickets, gas cards, snow tires for a 2005 Pontiac Montana van, and windshield washer fluid. 

Here is a partial list of items we will need to set up the Hôtel Dieu for Women. Items can be brought along with you to a pre-arranged visit, or dropped off in Oshawa or Omemee until the end of December.

Thanks to the prayers, dedication and hard work of Guy Durette and his wife, we found a place for the first Hôtel Dieu for Women - 37to 39 Government Road Fauquier.This post will try to explain what has happened since.

Bill McDonald Offers Musical Talents!

Bill McDonald, Bill Murray and John Partridge shared their musical gifts April 20th in Omemee. When we asked Bill McDonald if he and his wife would pray for our Hôtel Dieu for Women Mission, he said he would be interested in helping raise funds for the mission by putting on a Blue Grass Gospel Concert. The concert would be a shared door between the Hôtel Dieu for Women and the musicians, to help cover their expenses.
